The client wanted to launch a multi-vendor marketplace but existing solutions like Shopify and WooCommerce couldn't handle their complex commission structures, vendor onboarding requirements, and custom checkout flow.
We built a custom marketplace using Next.js for the storefront and Medusa.js as the headless commerce engine. Stripe Connect handles vendor payouts, and a custom admin panel manages vendors, products, and commissions.
The marketplace launched with 50 vendors and grew to 200+ within 6 months. Total GMV exceeded $2M in the first year with a 3.2% platform commission generating sustainable revenue.
